Giuseppe Obici, renowned Italian sculptor, burst onto the scene in 1807 and left a lasting legacy until his passing in Spilamberto, Modena. To hone his craft, he enrolled at the prestigious Academy of Fine Arts in Carrara in 1834, where he sharpened his skills alongside other aspiring artists. Following his time in Carrara, Obici headed to Rome to further refine his techniques under the tutelage of celebrated sculptor Pietro Tenerani in a studio renowned for its masterpieces. It was during this period that Obici crafted an impressive bust, which now takes pride of place at Florence's modern art gallery. Amongst Obici's most notable works are the majestic statue of Maria Immacolata, unveiled on Piazza di Spagna in Rome in 1856, and a striking portrayal of St John the Baptist, beautifully situated within the Chiesa di S.Maria sopra Minerva in Rome. Pietro Tenerani, master sculptor of the Neoclassic style, left an indelible mark on the art world with his exceptional craftsmanship and timeless creations.
