Portrait of Julius Caesar at The State Hermitage Museum, St Petersburg
myminifactory
The head of Julius Caesar, a masterful creation by a talented 16th century Italian sculptor, was crafted during the Renaissance when artists were highly skilled at replicating ancient portraits. A restorer in the 11th century meticulously placed the head on a bust depicting a Roman general, complete with a tunic, armor, and paludamentum. Additionally, the nose, chin, and part of the left ear were carefully restored. To date, most sculptures of Caesar have been identified as imitations. Among the 70 remaining portraits, only 20 are considered authentic ancient originals. This object is part of "Scan The World," a non-profit initiative introduced by MyMiniFactory.
