This head originates from Lower Egypt. It was brought back to France by General Charles François Joseph Dugua, who acquired it during Napoleon's campaign in Egypt between 1798 and 1801. The hair is divided down the middle. A digging on the sculpture indicates that a diadem made of stucco completed the hairstyle. This face with its long straight nose, well-marked nostrils, and prominent forehead gives off a haughty expression. It's characteristic of Cleopatra V Tryphaina, wife of Ptolemy XII Aulete, who ruled over the Nile countries from 80 to 58 BC and again from 55 to 51 BC. The features resemble those of her daughter, Cleopatra VII the Great, whose portrait is preserved at the Altes Museum in Berlin.
