Portrait of Baron Willem van Liere, Rombout Verhulst, 1662 - terracotta, h 51cm. More details were sought after by the public. In the 17th century, the State took charge of ordering grand tombs for 'national heroes'. This was especially true after 1650, when naval battles against the English took place repeatedly. Rombout Verhulst was a leading specialist in creating funerary monuments. He designed the tomb for Lieutenant-Admiral Maerten Tromp (1598–1653) in Delft, and this terracotta is a representation of his design. - https://www.rijksmuseum.nl/en/search/objecten?q=bust&f=1&p=2&ps=12&material=terracotta&ii=1#/BK-NM-11957-A,13
