Portrait of an unknown woman
myminifactory
This head was acquired in June 1850 by the Archaeological Society of Southern France for the Museum of Antiques in Toulouse as part of a collection of eight other unknown portrait sculptures. The collection had been expanded in the eighteenth century by Pierre Magi, according to Father Magi, a historian and numismatist. The head displayed here was mounted on a female statue draped with fabric discovered within the ancient walls of the former convent of the Poor Clares of Toulouse, now part of the Catholic Institute Museum. Daniel Cazes wrote this in 2005.
