Portrait of an unknown Isiac Priest (?) head

Portrait of an unknown Isiac Priest (?) head

myminifactory

When the head was cataloged by Joulin and then Rachou, it remained mounted on a bust-hermès draped in plaster or stucco. This presentation echoes the techniques of sculptor Beurné from the years 1830-1840 and implies that the head existed in the first half of the nineteenth century, although neither the lists of 1826 nor the catalogs of 1828 and 1835 enabled it to be identified with the excavations at Chiragan. The catalog by Ernest Roschach in 1865 also failed to recognize and assign it to those digs, but the manuscript catalog of 1844 by Alexandre Du Mege does include the head. In a brief mention, Du Mège neglects to provide any information about the archaeological site or collection from which the head was unearthed. D.C., Julio-Claudian Portraits, 2005, pp.53-55
