January 9], 1870, was a Russian writer and thinker who earned the nickname "father of Russian socialism" for his influential ideas. Herzen's impact on Russian politics was significant, as it led directly to the emancipation of the serfs in 1861. His life story is documented in his autobiography, My Past and Thoughts, widely regarded as a masterpiece of Russian literature. In addition to his writing on personal experiences, Herzen also published Who is to Blame?, a significant social novel released between 1845 and 1846 that remains an important work in the genre.
