Portrait of a young man, painted by the skilled Ridolfo Ghirlandaio in 1483, is a masterpiece from Italy's Florentine School of the early 16th century. Originally attributed to Beccafumi and Domenico Panetti, this work was later confirmed as a genuine creation by Ghirlandaio through the expert analysis of Sgarbi. The portrait measures 52.1 cm in height and 36.2 cm in width, while its frame adds an additional 72.6 cm in height and 55.5 cm in width to its overall dimensions. The depth of the painting is a mere 5 cm, a testament to Ghirlandaio's skill as a painter. This remarkable work has a rich history, having once belonged to Casa Bargelli in Florence. It was later purchased by Joseph Fuller of Chelsea in 1815, a transaction that may have taken place around that time. The painting eventually found its way into the possession of Professor Frederick Fuller, who received it in 1923. A small inscription on the back of the panel reveals the initials "R.D.E.F.DE.D.A.XXVI," a clue to the painting's provenance and history. This captivating portrait is now part of the collection at the Fitzwilliam Museum, where it can be viewed as object number 1112 in the Paintings, Drawings and Prints section of their database: http://data.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/id/object/375.
