This portrait, created in accordance with the styles of official portraiture, is identified as Brutus, Caesar's assassin, or Agrippa, the youngest son of Julia and Agrippa, known as Postumus because he was born after his father's death. Remaining hidden behind his brothers until 4 AD, the prince was adopted by Augustus to represent the Claudian family line. In 7 AD, Postumus was omitted from the Augustan succession and exiled to Pianosa between 30 and 15 BC.
