This Roman male portrait bust originated during Trajan's reign (98-117 AD), discovered near Tor Sapienza before Porta Maggiore in either 1830 or 1831. The original is currently on display at the Chiaramonti Museum (New wing, 102, Vatican Museums). Despite being unknown to date, research suggests that this portrait may be of Marcus Aemilius Lepidus, a prominent Roman figure who supported Julius Caesar and Mark Antony - appointed 'Master of the Horse' in 44 BC.
