This statue was widely thought to depict Cardinal Francesco Barberini and credited to Bernini's studio (M. Krohn 'Journal of Art Science', I, 1916, pp. 59). Similar statues in style were also attributed to Ottoni, such as the statue of Cardinal Orazio Mattei in S. Francesco a Ripa. However, this statue most probably represents none of the Cardinals known at that time and is likely to be of Barberini.
