Portrait af Agrippina Minor

myminifactory

The tresses are parted down the center, coiled into three tight rows that frame a face unmistakably identified as Agrippina Minor (15-59 AD), daughter of Germanicus and the celebrated Agrippina Major. Married to Claudius in 49 AD at the tender age of 34, she became mother to the infamous Nero, who would eventually order her execution at 44. The portrait is a masterful representation, with subtle hints of its subject's exalted status as empress - an office she held when this work was created during the late Claudian period.
