Portion Control Utensils
thingiverse
My 3D printing course participants were tasked with selecting an intriguing project. I chose portion control as my topic after conducting research. To address this issue, I designed kitchen utensils that would limit portion size. As per my designs, using smaller bites and eating slowly leads to faster satiation and reduced overall consumption. The fork features a hinge at its front handle, which must be secured with a rubber band post-printing. If an object too large is attempted to be picked up with the fork, it will bend and the piece will fall off. The knife has two left and right serrated blades in front of the handle, designed to cut larger pieces into smaller ones, encouraging slower eating. The spoon with a hole allows soup to drain before reaching the mouth, while the false-bottom spoon reduces soup intake per bite. The drippy straw features internal flaps that restrict liquid flow, slowing down the drinker. These utensils aim to control portion size and promote mindful eating habits.
