Portal Radio Shell
thingiverse
The Portal series' radio, replicated at a 1:1 scale (27 cm long by roughly 16 cm high or 11 inches by 6 & 1/2 inches), is the focus of this model. It was designed using a screenshot from the game and includes dimensions and positioning based on the in-game radio. The model has undergone an update, with pieces now theoretically printable on any printer with a 6 by 6 by 6-inch envelope (approximately 153mm). Shell walls are just under 1/8 inch thick (2.8mm), and button hole and antenna holes have been removed for easier printing. The parts list includes HalfBase (x2), HalfShell, HalfShellRight, HalfFaceplate/HalfFaceplateHole (x2), and an optional Tuning Nob. SketchUp files are also available for modding purposes. HalfFaceplateHole comes with cutouts for the speakers, light, and screen, while HalfFaceplate does not. Both files have a 1/8-inch gap between the faceplate and shell for lighting, which can be adjusted if desired. The radio's dimensions are approximately 11" W x 4.5" D x 6.5" H (270mm x 115mm x 160mm), and it includes holes for the channel display, speakers, front LED lighting, but not for AC power, battery backup, on button, or antenna. Additional materials required for a functional radio include a small radio with speakers, blue LEDs (around 15), wires, and an LED display. Extra tools needed are electrical tape, sandpaper, and acetone. This project is a work in progress, and the creator hopes someone with a 3D printer will try to print it.
