This is my custom take on the Portal 2 Weighted Storage Cube. I designed it using SketchUp. The model measures 7" x 7". It's a complex build that requires almost two full rolls of filament, electronics assembly, the Arduino platform, and some sanding and painting. You'll need at least an Arduino micro, six Adafruit Neopixel rings, and an accelerometer to get started. You'll also need four-40 threaded inserts, screws, and tiny magnets. Several pieces must be glued together carefully. Alternatively, you could choose to forego using the four-40 screws and inserts for the LED holders and simply glue everything together. Your decision. This project also requires other electronics: a battery pack, prototype board, wires, etc. For more details, please see my five-part blog post on my website (the link is below). It runs off a three-cell AA battery pack, but with 72 LEDs and an Arduino, the batteries don't last very long at all. Feel free to improve the battery pack or power management as needed. The acrylic centers need to be laser cut precisely. I've included the SVG file for your convenience. The stencil for the Aperture Science logos also needs to be laser cut, which I've included along with the design file. The Arduino code is also provided, but if you plan on implementing the electronics, you'll need to download the Neopixel and MMA8451 libraries from Adafruit.com. I have a five-part blog post on my website that walks you through the design and assembly of the cube from start to finish. This should provide more detailed instructions and guidance than I can offer here. You can find the link below: http://kevinrye.net/index_files/portal_cube_p1.php Keep in mind that I won't be offering any tech support on this project, so it's up to you to figure things out as you go along. Feel free to make any improvements or modifications you see fit. Thanks for looking and happy building!
