Portada San Juan Bautista
sketchfab
The Church of St. John the Baptist is a late Gothic church located in the northern nucleus of the village of Agreda. Although its general architectural outline is late Gothic style, it was originally a Romanesque temple. Evidence of this is the portico, structured by four arched archivolts decorated with plant motifs and the symbol of the Lamb, which refers to the titular saint. In the space in front of this door, around 1980, a necropolis was located that had been used since the ninth century until the 14th century. Currently, it is possible to see a total of 25 excavated tombs in the rock. Despite the Romanesque vestiges, the plant corresponds to a Gothic building of the sixteenth century, structured in a single nave with a pentagonal head and lateral chapels. In the main altar, you can highlight a baroque altarpiece, inside which stands out a curious sculptural set on the Baptism of Christ.
