Romanesque Portico Chronology: Thirteenth Century Old Northern Portico of the Demolished Parish Church of San Pedro de Melide, Destroyed in 1949. In that year, the current Chapel of San Roque was built, with remnants of the old parish and also the demolished Chapel of San Roque (the ancient chapel located 90m west of the current one). The portico is a magnificent example of architecture and sculpture from Romanesque style on the Camino de Santiago. It has three pairs of columns topped by vegetal capital decorations. On arches and columns, there are archivolts with an abundant decoration in Gothic aesthetics (archiolas or lobes, diamond tips, and floral motifs). Also noteworthy are the eaves with a characteristic plant-like decoration, and on the left, a wolf's head is represented tying its tail to a basilisk or dragon that is devouring a man.
