This 3D Star Trek-inspired chessboard comes with low-profile pieces and can be disassembled for easy transport. For instructions on required materials and assembly, refer to the provided guidelines. Charles Roth's site (http://www.thedance.net/~roth/TECHBLOG/chess.html) offers standard chess rules and an easy explanation of the game, while Jens Meder's site (http://home.arcor.de/jens.meder/3dschach/chess3d.htm) provides tournament rules. Credits to Doug Keenan (http://www.thingiverse.com/dougkeenan) for the tournament rules mention and his 3D chess program, Parmen (http://www.parmen.com/). Note that this design doesn't allow attack board inversions, so you can simply play without them. The assembly requires a 1/4" threaded rod, fender washers for base weight, a cap nut for the top board, and a wing nut to hold everything together. Some parts may need additional material removal or cleaning before assembly, such as rafts at corners and on attack board pins. Drill holes for the threaded rod in base and main boards. Attack board pins are glued into stems, and black squares are printed separately and glued in as an inlay. Felt is recommended for the bottom of chess pieces and the base to prevent sliding.
