Portable Computer Shell
thingiverse
This is a versatile enclosure designed for hobbyist use. The side compartments accommodate BL-5C type batteries and pathways lead directly to the central compartment, where main electronics can be housed. A keyboard built with Cherry MX style keyswitches and Costar stabilizers provides optimal typing experience. The cover or lid supports a monitor, display or other device, or can remain as-is. Friction hinges allow for seamless attachment of the lid to the main body using off-the-shelf components. Individual components are divided into cover, bottom, switch, and top printable sections. Handle versions have a "_h" suffix in their file names. The "assembled.stl" and "assembled_h.stl" models showcase the plates in assembled orientation. To ensure precise scaling before printing, verify that the switch cutout measures exactly 14 x 14mm. The rest of the enclosure should proportionally align after this critical measurement is met. For enhanced stability and typing feel, consider laser cutting the switch plate from ABS or similar material instead of 3D printing. The bottom layer features pathways for battery connections in the side compartments as well as an entry point into the keyboard well. An additional cutout allows for wiring to the cover, while weep holes prevent liquid retention in case of spills. Pathways to the main compartment can be sealed with silicone to block moisture from entering the keyboard area. Screws used to attach all three bottom layers must reach the top plate without protruding excessively from the end.
