Porsche Panamera 970 Phone Mount

Updated 06/23/20: v3's relocated arm keeps the body from pressing on the Panamera's armrest, allowing for more room at the top to make removing the phone easier. Updated 05/27/20: v2 features a better angle for the arm and refined body that holds the phone securely and makes removal easier. The base has been improved, fitting snugly into the ashtray with much greater precision. Introduction ========== There's no attractive and functional phone holder designed specifically for the Porsche Panamera - at least not one without adhesives or clips. This is a niche project that works exceptionally well, making it an ideal solution for those who want a hassle-free experience. Who needs an ashtray anyway? This device is compatible with 2010-2016 Panamera models (970.1 and 970.2) and has been designed specifically for my Asus ROG Phone II. However, the phone holder body can be easily modified to accommodate other devices. The holder's base and wedge should be printed in TPU or FLEX and inserted into the ashtray without any modifications or clips. The design is maintained on TinkerCAD: * v1: https://www.tinkercad.com/things/2BlIoSTxllE * v2: https://www.tinkercad.com/things/c62ldRzIpXI Printing Instructions: ===================== * Print the wedge in TPU or FLEX. I used clear TPU from SAINSMART and printed at a .10mm layer thickness, which worked well. Printing bottom-up (normal orientation) without supports is recommended. * Print the base in TPU or FLEX. I used the same SAINSMART TPU and recommend printing with a relatively large layer height - either .20 or .30mm leaves nice ridges on the sides that grip the ashtray nicely. Printing top-down (slot facing down) without supports is ideal. * Print the arm in a material suitable for heat resistance, such as ABS or PETG. PLA might become too flexible in hot climates. I used ABS for v3, but PETG works well in cooler climates (keep in mind tolerances and material shrinkage if using ABS). Print upside down with supports, with the mounting face on the print bed and minimal support for screw recesses. I printed without supports during testing and achieved acceptable results, but added more strength by including supports. * Print the body in the same material as the arm, using the same settings and printing normally (back on the print bed). Experimenting with vertical printing caused warping due to longer print times; however, your results may vary. Assembly Instructions: ===================== * You will need four 10-32 x ~1/4 or 3/8 long screws and nuts with shallow heads to attach the body to the arm. * Insert the wedge between the ashtray and console opening just above the release point (refer to the ashtray photo). This prevents accidental ejection of the ashtray and secures the holder's mounting. * Insert the arm through the "t" shaped opening on the front of the body, angling it towards the bottom. See photos for reference. * Use the 4 screws to attach the body to the arm, tightening the nuts reasonably onto the screws. Washers can be used to prevent crushing the plastic. * Insert the assembly's arm into the slot in the base, noting the orientation of the base relative to the ashtray. * Gently insert the base fully into the ashtray. Removal Instructions: ===================== * Carefully lift the body/arm/base assembly straight out of the ashtray. * Remove the stabilizing wedge from between the ashtray and console opening.
