Replacement Latch for Porsche Cayman 997 Oil and Coolant Door. A New Assembly is Extremely Expensive, But This Design Saves the Day. My design is based on my trusty 987.1 version, but other versions of the car may use the same door and latch. This latch will replace just the broken piece and has been designed to be stronger than the original. It can be painted satin silver to match the original trim or printed in a contrasting color that really pops. I installed this one myself and it works like a charm. Due to potential heat issues in the latch location, I highly recommend using a 3D printed plastic with a higher melting point – I used Polymaker PC-MAX, but ABS or Nylon may also work well. Installation Instructions: 1) It is not necessary to remove the door, but it's definitely easier if you do. Move the carpet to expose the lower hinges and squeeze-in the tabs on both sides. The door should move forward for removal – nice and smooth! 2) Pry the satin aluminum trim piece with the carpet inset from the front of the door. It seems to be held on with glue, but don't worry, it's easy to remove without heat. I was able to carefully pry it free without any trouble. 3) Remove the pin through the latch and the tension spring. This is a simple process that requires some patience, but trust me, it's worth it. 4) Install the new latch and put everything back together in reverse order. If you want to get fancy, use high temperature hot glue or epoxy to install the trim with the new latch back on the door.
