Porcelain Bowl #6

Dr Iskandar's collection of bowls pays homage to the master of porcelain, David Leach, but proudly declares its own playful personality that sets it apart from Leach's restrained style. Dr Iskandar's bowls are one-of-a-kind and refuse to be tamed. They flaunt irregular rims, pierced holes, small body bumps, and even one that stubbornly refuses to stand upright - collapsing lopsided with a life of its own. Dr Iskandar's writings on porcelain offer valuable insights. He extols the virtues of porcelain as creating bowls "so thin they're infused with light" and which "resonate" like they were made for some sacred purpose. He adds poetically that porcelain's fragility seemed "almost like shards of my memories." Dr Iskandar candidly admits it was a grueling experience working with porcelain due to its limited plasticity and exacting demands, and most of all because it didn't resonate with his own creative vision.
