<body>Tip o' the hat to <a href="https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5452318/" title="jimerb"> Jim B</a> </body>for his rotary sprinkler grass protection ring. I tried one a couple of weeks ago and it's doing its job of keeping the grass at bay, but even better is that it can extend above the heads when they get overgrown or buried in the ground. <br> <br> Created an additional smaller version (Ø60mm - original size was about Ø70) to fit more tightly around the sprinkler heads. Also created two alternative "non-potable water" versions with warnings embossed around the flange (to be printed in purple). </body> ###Printing Notes### - For outdoor use the parts should be printed in ASA, but my PLA ones are still going strong through a hot Aussie summer. - The parts take a while to print, so I fired up my trusty Wanhao Duplicator, fitted it with a 0.8mm nozzle and now it just sits there and churns them out. That nozzle is crazy: layer height is 0.6mm but print speed is right down... still about a third quicker than a 0.4mm nozzle. - Don't bother with supports: the flange is on the print surface and the engraving doesn't need it. - I had some fun changing filament after the layers with the writing on them - see pics. - These parts are buried so it's a great way to use up old filament scraps. - The parts only leave a small gap around the sprinkler head: if you want a bigger one, scale the file up in your slicer.</body> ###Installation and Use### <body>Ground is soft enough to place collar over sprinkler head and just stand on it (rocking back and forth); otherwise Jim has excellent installation instructions. <br> The purple heads (cough) aren't noticeable until you're almost standing on top of them. They're not distracting to the casual viewer, but give you a bit of warning when you're mowing the lawn. Haven't come up with a great solution to stop people parking on them though.</body> <br /> <hr /> <body> Check out more designs from <a href="https://www.thingiverse.com/department_nine/designs/" title="D9"> Department_Nine</a>!</body> <hr /> <br /> <br />
