Pop-up GPS mount for mavic clone
thingiverse
I was experiencing interference issues between the magnetometer and the 3D GPS due to its proximity to the video Tx and battery, which led me to design a pop-up GPS mount that relocates the GPS/magnetometer away from these interfering components. Underneath the cover, there are hooks where small rubber bands can be attached to make the GPS spring up and stay in place. In practice, I've found that simply relying on the friction within the pivot points is sufficient to keep it stable. For the construction of this mount, I employed 1/16-inch or 1.6mm wire for the bottom pivot pins and servo screws for the rest. I printed the parts using carbon fibre ABS from Blueprinted Co., a material that may offer some degree of EMF shielding, although its impact is minimal. Nevertheless, it's an excellent choice for printing as it significantly reduces shrinkage. Thanks to this mount, my compass calibration has improved dramatically, and the quad now hovers steadily in a locked position. 11 Nov 2017: I updated the battery cover file.
