Poor Mans Quick Change Spindle For 1 lb Plastic
thingiverse
To fulfill the need for rapid color changes with 1 lb plastic coils, I created a spool that allows easy removal of old coils and quick attachment of new ones. However, I discovered that 1 lb coils tend to unwind, so a larger bottom disk is necessary - maybe a 20-inch round cake board would suffice. For the spool, I purchased an inexpensive $20, 10-inch round turn table (lazy susan) from WalMart; ensure the top is no bigger than 10 inches for convenience. Glue three pegs into the base (but don't attach the top permanently so it can be removed during coil changes). Place a 20-inch (or as large as possible, like my 16-inch) round piece of cardboard on the pegs and load the plastic coil. Secure the coil with Velcro if needed due to the cardboard's size. Happy printing!
