Summary Cheap Spool Holder: A DIY Alternative When you're in a pinch and can't find bearings, create your own with this makeshift version. You'll need 1/4"OD tubing, which you can source from an airline or leftover from a water filter installation. This tubing is readily available at auto parts stores or hardware stores for approximately $0.39USD per foot. Materials Needed - Four #8 screws measuring about 20mm in length - Four #8 nuts - Four pieces of 1/4" tubing, each cut to roughly 12mm or less Printed Parts Assembly Cut the tubing to fit loosely into the slots and lubricate it with teflon spray or household lubricant. Secure the parts with the screws and #8 nuts. You may choose to omit the two support bars if you prefer, but they can help prevent the rollers from toppling over due to clumsiness.
