Poor man's Dremel protection: eye and finger
thingiverse
This project was inspired by two other designs found on the Thingiverse website, specifically https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1027406 and https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1369340. This design aims to help users better control their Dremel tools using their thumbs while also protecting their eyes. Update: Version 1.1 & 1.2 have been released, featuring a tapered design for improved compatibility. This design has been tested on the Dremel 3000 model, but it should work with other models like 285, 4000, and 8000 as well. To assemble this project, follow these steps: Step 1: Find a water bottle Step 2: Measure the thread diameter of the bottle ("D" in the image) If the thread diameter is 25mm, use Option A. If it's 27mm, use Option B. If it's neither 25 nor 27mm, go back to Step 1. Step 3: You're done! Here are some water bottles that have been tested: Option A: Generic Select brand water bottle (7-11 convenience store) with a 1.5L capacity Option B: Aquafina 1L and Dasani 1L water bottles The theory behind each option is as follows: Option A has loose parameters, making it more compatible with bottles having a 25mm thread diameter and 2.0mm pitch. Option B has tighter parameters, optimized for Aquafina and Dasani brands. Please note that different manufacturers have varying thread sizes, which can make the design process challenging. I'm not looking forward to testing various bottles, so please use one of my supported water bottles. Some bottles may have similar thread diameters but different pitches! For example, Option B will fit both Dasani and Aquafina nicely, but you'll notice a difference between the two brands. Dasani has a 27.3mm thread diameter, while Aquafina measures slightly over 27.15mm. You might be wondering why I'm going around measuring different bottle thread sizes. As long as the clear plastic part hangs, who cares? This guy's going water bottle crazy with this thing! He must have no life! To print this project, use the following settings: Material: PLA (This design will not print properly with ABS) Number of perimeters: 3 Layer height: .2mm (Threads will not print properly with anything greater!) Infill percentage: 35%
