Pongo pygmaeus (Linnaeus, 1760) is a species of orangutan native to the island of Borneo. Known as the orangutan de Borneo or orangután de Borneo in Spanish and other languages, this primate is one of two great apes that live exclusively on the Asian continent. MZB 2001-0286 identifies a specific individual of Pongo pygmaeus. This specimen's vertebra L2 bears an important characteristic for scientists studying the species. As a male adult, MZB 2001-0286 was found in the Zoo de Barcelona in Spain on November 6th, 2001.
