The PVC tube used can vary in diameter and thickness. In Europe, the standard PVC tube size is 63 mm external diameter and 3 mm wall thickness, but thinner options are available in Togo. To ensure smooth operation, you may need to adjust the guide ring's diameter if using a thinner PVC tube. To facilitate startup, add a small amount of water through the outlet hole. The printed PLA guides can be replaced with custom-cut plastic food-grade sheets for added durability. The assembly involves attaching the PVC tube to the base with epoxy glue, making sure the cap is removable for easy maintenance. Use silicone sealant for waterproofing the discharge pipe, intake pipe, and cap. You can wrap the handle with a 32 mm diameter PVC tube for added protection. The lower valve is cut using a template from an air chamber or pool tarpaulin. The valve closes due to the weight of the guides and screw. Notes: Our tests on the flexible membrane have been successful, but we lack data on the long-term durability of printed parts. High filament costs and lengthy fabrication times lead us to recommend alternative solutions like air chambers or pool tarps. See the PDF file for detailed hardware specifications.
