Provenance and Description: The Anta Grande da Comenda da Igreja monument stands tall north of Montemor-o-Novo, its origins rooted in the transition from the 4th to 3rd millennium BC. As one of the largest neolithic funerary structures in the Iberian Peninsula, this polygonal chamber boasts stones that reach about 6 meters in height and a corridor stretching 11 meters long. The monument underwent excavation at the end of the 19th century and again in the 1980s, yielding an impressive collection of votive objects that includes this polished stone axe. Crafted from a previously worked amphibolite block, only the edge was carefully polished to perfection. Today, this remarkable artifact is part of the National Museum of Archeology's museological reserves and proudly displayed at the Museum of the Convent of S. Domingos in Montemor-o-Novo. Inventory Number: CSD 0528
