Polished Slate XCB-001-572 XCB-001 or IZM-001 is a significant archaeological site that was first investigated by A.P. McCartney in 1971 and has since become the definitive type-site for the Cape Glazenap Phase. This massive village, comprising nucleus-satellite corporate households, dates back to approximately 1000-1200 CE. The Western Alaska Peninsula artifacts showcased here are a direct result of research conducted under grants NSF 9630072, NSF 9814086, NSF 9996372, NSF 9996415, NSF 1139266, and NSF 1321411. H. Maschner led this investigation as Principal Investigator. The artifacts were captured using either a Faro Edge Arm or a Minolta Vivid 9i scanner. Subsequent processing was carried out in Geomagic or Polyworks software, with 2-8 images used for texture enhancement in Geomagic Wrap. Initial digitizing work was conducted at the IVL at Id. St. Univ., and further analysis and publication were completed by Global Digital Heritage. 1. McCartney's findings are documented in "Prehistoric Cultural Integration along the Alaska Peninsula" published in APUA 16(1):59-84, 1974. 2. Maschner's research is available online with the doi: 10.1353/arc.2011.0007, published in Arctic Anthro., January 1, 2004, vol. 41 no. 2, pp. 98-111.
