Polaris wheel with ceramic bearings
prusaprinters

My Polaris 180-280 seems to last about a year ( It's used 12 month's where I live ) before it needs new bearings. The bearings used are getting cheaper to buy but I thought I would try some of the ceramic bearings that Banggood.com sells online.

To make the bearings work the supporting mounts for the wheels and the idler wheel needed to be made to accept a 6mm x 40mm and a single 6 x 35mm stainless steel bolt. Each large wheel takes a bolt, washer, bearing(606), spacer cut to size,bearing(606) and a washer.

The Idler wheel only needs a washer on the outside as the new mount has a offset built in.

I also made a turbine wheel bearing that takes a single 608 bearing. It's mounted with the bearing facing the spacer on the shaft. The 8mm pinion runs in the bearing. I think that running these with too much play will rapidly wear out the gears on the big wheels. Hopefull this will last longer.

I print this in ABS and have parts in the pool for a couple of years with no problems.

I keep nibbling away at this, maybe some day I can build a complete unit.

Cheers

Kisssys
Category: Replacement Parts
