Cubone is a small, bipedal Pokémon with golden brown hide that covers its body, including both dorsal spikes. Its light brown belly stands out from its otherwise dark coat. Two tiny claws serve as thumbs on each hand, while two large nails make up its toes. On its head, Cubone wears the skull of its deceased mother like a helmet, which leaves much of its actual face unseen except for its triangular, black eyes and a small area surrounding them. The skull has rounded horns on top of its head and a pointed tooth on its lower sides. Underneath the skull, Cubone has a brown snout. This tiny Pokémon survives by mastering the skill of wielding the bone it carries as a weapon. The bone allows Cubone to learn two exclusive moves: Bone Club and Bonemerang, which are unique to Cubone and its evolution, Marowak. It is called the Lonely Pokémon because of its tendency to keep to itself and avoid social situations due to being traumatized by the death of its mother. At night, Cubone often cries in mourning of its mother, causing the skull on its head to vibrate and emit a mournful sound. During full moon nights, its cries are especially heart-wrenching. Cubone seems to recognize its mother in the moon's glow, which is why it howls with such sadness. This Pokémon can be found in rocky areas like mountains and caves, or even in places where deceased Pokémon were once buried and mourned, such as the Pokémon Tower in Lavender Town.
