Pokeball, Greatball, Ultraball, Premier Ball
thingiverse
Every year I create video game-inspired items and donate them to my local Extra Life charity event. In 2016, I designed Pokeballs from scratch! I modeled the Pokeballs entirely by myself and then printed all the components on a 3D printer. Next, I carefully sanded every part to give it a smooth finish. To create multiple parts quickly and efficiently, I developed molds using Mold Max 30 and 40 materials. These molds allowed me to replicate the Pokeball parts in a vibrant plastic resin. The distinctive stripes on the Ultra and Great Balls were then painted by hand. After painting, I assembled the parts together using epoxy adhesive, aided by a custom-made spacing tool that I designed specifically for this project (I'll try to find the design file). To display the Pokeballs proudly, I crafted matching acrylic stands using my CNC machine. By carefully removing the tapered part and button from each stand, I was able to apply more glue behind them for an even stronger bond. Since I created these models with polyurethane casting in mind, they only have a depth ring on them, making it slightly challenging to align them properly without the custom tool I designed. I hope you appreciate this charity project and are inspired to use your skills to make a positive impact on people's lives.
