Point-butted axe
myminifactory
Polished point-butted greenstone axe from Lofta parish in Småland. Point butted axes appear throughout Scandinavia during the Early Neolithic period, roughly 4000-3700 BC, and are linked with the Funnel Beaker Culture. At some stage, likely towards the end of the Neolithic era, around 2300-1700 BC, someone made an attempt to convert this axe into a shaft hole axe by drilling a hole through its narrow side. This endeavor was abandoned relatively early on, possibly due to the density of the stone being too great to handle.
