I set out to test the feasibility of a DIY, cost-effective y-carriage using readily available parts. Results showed it's surprisingly effective, with one major drawback: assembling it requires some effort and possibly a drill for smaller holes. There is no belt anchor, so I secured the belts with zip-ties around the X rods. To create tension in the rods and eliminate their flexibility, I used one zip-tie on the left side of the zip-tied belt to secure both X rods and another on the right side. The parts were printed at 20% infill with three perimeters and four solid top/bottom layers. Here is the bill of materials: * 40 M5 hex nuts * Four 230mm M5 threaded rod (Y direction) * Two 140mm M5 threaded rod (X direction)
