Pneumatic rotational stepper motor: R-64
thingiverse
The R-64 is a highly effective pneumatic rotational stepper motor that relies on three pistons engaging with an 8 or 16 toothed gear. Its massive torque is made possible by the large 24 mm x 24 mm piston surface area. A convenient M5 threaded bottom plate is available for use with push-in fittings. I have also designed several two-cylinder rotational and linear motors as detailed in this paper, but these are patented and cannot be easily shared here. In contrast, three-cylinder single-acting motor designs utilize existing technology and can be freely shared. The R-64 presented here is my most advanced attempt to date to maximize torque within the given dimensions while circumventing patent restrictions. July 18, 2018: Axle tolerance has been adjusted to 0.2 mm for improved performance.
