The PMA-2 is a blast antipersonnel mine from Yugoslavia. It's sometimes called the 'Pašteta' because it looks like a meat-pâté tin. The mine has dark green plastic and six petals on its plunger. Overview The mine becomes armed when you remove a pin that blocks the plunger. When you press down on the plunger, it sets off a friction-sensitive pyrotechnic composition. This composition then ignites a detonator which fires an RDX booster pellet that explodes the main TNT charge. PMA-2 mines are often buried so only their star-shaped plunger is visible above ground. However, they can be hard to spot in heavy undergrowth or leaf litter. Note: PMA-2 mines can also be placed in other ways to make them harder to find and clear. For example, they might be upside down with just a little bit of the base showing, or buried diagonal to the ground surface so their plunger is hidden underground. A minefield with PMA-2 mines could have some or all of these different types. This mine resists traditional explosive countermeasures that use sudden blast over pressure. It also has very little metal in its fuze. The blast from a PMA-2 mine usually destroys the victim's foot, causing permanent disability and making it hard for them to walk properly. Examples of the PMA-2 mine have been found in Albania, Angola, Bosnia, Cambodia, Croatia, Kosovo, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.
