Plywood chess set

Create a laser-cut chess set for your grandfather's 90th birthday. The pieces are made from 3mm birch plywood, with stained dark pieces for distinction. The board features alternating etched and bare squares. After returning from a trip, you've decided to share the designs online. In the future, you may experiment with an etched or scored pattern on the dark pieces instead of staining them. The design was created using SketchUp, where standard chess piece models were sourced from the warehouse and scaled accordingly. Laser-cut twice and glued together, the pieces have intentionally keyed bases for correct assembly. For added effect, run black squares over the board at 100% speed and power to achieve a golden color.
