A new project involves creating multilayer tubes from wooden veneer ribbons. For optimal strength, ribbons must be wrapped around a cylinder mold in crossed layers until desired thickness is achieved. Angle for wrapping depends on the cylinder's diameter and ribbon width. I created an Excel worksheet to calculate these angles and triangle heights needed for ribbon alignment. In one example, with a 82mm cylinder diameter and 120mm wide ribbons, the angle is approximately 62.22 degrees and the triangle height is 227.92 mm. This worksheet can also recalculate dimensions for multiple layers as the cylinder's diameter increases with each layer.
