This pedestal bearing accommodates lengthy shafts requiring intermediary support, notably when introducing the shaft through the bearing end is not feasible. The design incorporates a pedestal or base, a cap, and a split bush consisting of two halves known as 'bearing brasses'. Assembly of these parts facilitates effortless insertion and periodic replacement of worn-out brasses. By positioning the journal on the lower half of the bush retained in the base, followed by installing the upper half of the bush and securing it with two bolts attached to the pedestal, a secure assembly is ensured. Additionally, flanges are located at each end of the bush to restrain its axial motion. To prevent the rotary movement of the bush, a precision fit snug fits into a corresponding hole at the base of the lower brass. Mass Properties (of assembly): * Mass = 7852.71 grams * Volume = 1062997.33 cubic millimeters * Surface Area = 196433.76 square millimeters Center of mass: X-coordinate = 0 mm Y-coordinate = 54.11 mm Z-coordinate = 0 mm (origin point at the base) No use was made of screws during assembly. The accompanying sketches are taken from "Machine Drawing" (Third Edition) by K.L. Narayana, P.K. Kannaiyah, and K.V.N.K.Reddy.
