PLOTS Spectrometer, ChemistryDude Edition V2.3

PLOTS Spectrometer, ChemistryDude Edition V2.3

thingiverse

Introducing the new Version 3.0 of the spectrometer available at http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:49934, which can be attached to your Android or iOS phone, tablet, or any camera with macro-mode capabilities. The device assists in collecting spectra for identifying elemental composition of objects like light bulbs based on their emitted colors. This version boasts a reduction in printable parts, improved light seal around the tube, and enhanced sturdiness compared to previous models. The spectrometer consists of three main components: a base with four rubber-catching pegs for quick phone attachment or flat bottom to glue onto a removable case; a grating holder that keeps the diffraction grating in place; and a tube for holding everything together. Assembly instructions involve fitting a piece of grating (such as holographic film grating) over the holder, hot-gluing it to plastic film, attaching the holder to the angled end using acetone, cutting a narrow slit in the solid end of the tube, and strapping the device to your chosen device for capturing spectra. For Android users with Opera browser, you can access http://spectralworkbench.org/ to save and share your analyzed spectra.
