The first fossil of Plesiosaur was found in 1821 thanks to Mary Anning's work in England. • How big was it and what did it look like? Typical plesiosaurs had a wide body and short tail, instead of legs they had fins. The average weight of an adult Plesiosaurus was around 450 kg, similar to the weight of an adult cow. Larger species could be almost 20 meters long, this weight could reach several tons. • How long did it live? It lived for 80 million years, at the end of the Cretaceous period and its life also extended into the Jurassic era. • What did it eat?
