I really liked jeoje's design for the Playseat Challenge, but I didn't have any M3 hardware that was long enough. I had some M6x40mm flat head screws leftover from another project, so I decided to use those instead.

I started from scratch using Inventor since the geometry is fairly simple. Just used the Fusion design to get some measurements.

I made some minor changes to the design, but overall it's the same. I combined the surface and outside bracket pieces, like previous remixes have done. However, I also added a pocket to drop in a nut during the print, before it was just a blind hole. You'll want to pause the print around 18mm height (layer 118 for me, using UM2+ coarse PLA profile) to insert the nut. I used a nyloc nut, which was 10mm wide and 6mm tall. The other five nuts are placed in the pockets of the inside bracket. The bolt pattern for the clamps was changed to accommodate the larger hardware. I also didn't have the large fillets like the original, so I had more space for the countersunk holes without making the brackets too large.

I installed the bolts with the Playseat supplied short 4mm allen key, don't need to go very tight or you will crack it.

So far, I've put a few hours of use on it and it works well. The lock for the steering bar likes to work loose, but that's not any fault of the shifter or the mount. Perhaps I just shift too aggressively, lol.

Also, this is for a right handed shifter setup, you should be able to just mirror the parts in your slicer if you want it mounted on the other side.

(Don't mind the missing bit on the outside bracket, I thought I would have enough left on the roll to finish the print, lol. It'll probably bug me enough to reprint it in the future even though it works as is.)

Print Settings

Printer Brand:

Ultimaker

Printer:

Ultimaker 2

Rafts:

No

Supports:

Yes

Resolution:

.15

Infill:

18%

Filament: Ultimaker PLA Black

Notes:

I used 3 walls to make the print a little stiffer instead of the default 2 line wall setting.

Category: Video Games
