Plato at The Louvre, Paris
cults3d
The Greek sculptor Selanion crafts a portrait of Plato (428-348 BC) for the gardens of Athens' Academy, commissioned by Mithridates as recorded by Diogenes Laërtius in De Vitis Philosophorum, III, 25 and cited in Favorinus' Memorabilia. The commission's details remain unclear, making it hard to pinpoint the exact creation date. Although worn, the bust's inscription still reveals two crucial letters that confirm Plato's likeness.
