Plated Animated Fennec Fox
thingiverse
I truly admired Zensou's edited mesh family of the popular fennec fox model. They really show a lot more character and movement than my original, which is quite impressive. Those models, like the original, print superbly, but only if you have your printer perfectly tuned to use support material. This derivative aims to help those whose printers are incapable of using support material, yet still want a playful-looking fennec in their hands. The nature of plated items like this allows you to print much larger versions of the original without needing a bigger printer. You are still encouraged to use support material to support the relatively steep overhangs around the paws. Even with a 45deg overhang tolerance set in your slicer, the amount of support material required is minimal, as shown in the screenshot above. This should allow anyone to print their own animated fennec fox (kit). I did the same to my original fennec fox model soon after it was published a few years ago. Post-Printing All that's needed after printing is some super glue and maybe a hobby knife. Printing with a brim, where the first layer extends out slightly to ensure full bed adhesion, is also recommended to avoid any unsightly gaps in your finished print due to warping. After printing all the parts, apply a generous amount of CA or super glue to the split body and tail (sides that face the print bed). Once dry, use the same glue again to bond the tail to the body. Allow time for the glue to cure before doing the final touch-ups. Sanding the flat faces before gluing also ensures a lasting bond.
