PlasticBank: Land Mine Marker
grabcad
Land mines pose a significant problem worldwide, particularly in war-torn and developing nations. Estimates suggest 110 million active landmines exist, equating to one for every 17 children or 52 people globally. Additionally, 110 million more are stored for future use. These weapons impact over 70 countries, causing approximately 2,000 accidents per month; 800 die while 1,200 suffer life-changing injuries. This issue could be addressed by utilizing recycled plastic to create markers. Anti-mine teams in remote locations can print these on-demand for tagging mines until permanent solutions are implemented or the mines are removed entirely. The eco-friendly approach minimizes environmental impact, and the markers' weight of 45 grams (using .0371 lbs/in³ density ABS) allows them to be printed using standard 3D printers. Scaling is also possible to suit various printer build sizes. The skull pattern on the markers was inspired by Tommy Meuller's "skull ring." What do you think of this idea?
