Stained plaster bust by James DeVille (1777-1846), located on 367 Strand, London, England in 1821. Marked with 35 distinct organs based on Johann Gaspar Spurzheim’s arrangement, with names and numbers written in ink. This plaster phrenological head is divided according to German phrenologist Johann Spurzheim's system, featuring 35 unique 'organs'. Phrenologists believed that various brain parts possess different qualities. They also thought an individual's personality could be deciphered from the lumps and bumps on their skull. The head was crafted by James DeVille (1777-1846), a phrenologist based in London's Strand area. Deville owned over five thousand phrenological heads at his premises.
