Plantation Shutter Slat Clamp
prusaprinters

I was inspired by Andrei's print in place cam bag clip design and used his principles and clearances to design a plantation shutter double cam-clamp. Why would one need something like this? Most people wouldn't. Plantation shutter slats typically stay where you put them. But I have an a-hole cat that likes to open the shutter slats early in the morning to look out the window which lets the light in the room when we're trying to sleep in! He's a clever a-hole cat and has thwarted my simpler solutions, so I had to get fancy.

I had to modify Andrei's original design to allow the clamp to open wider for installation. But a side effect of that is that the clamp has to be manually closed at least half way before the cam lever will finish clamping. 1mm thick rubber pads are supper glued to the rotating clamps to prevent damage to the shutter slats and get more clamping force.

Designed in fusion360. The .f3d file is included in case someone else with an a-hole cat has different sized shutters.

Print instructions

Print on the side all at one time

PLA
0.15mm layer height
15% infill
Supports on build plate only

Takes a few minute after printing to break off and clean up the supports then to break the moving parts loose. Be careful not to apply too much stress to the thin middle section while doing that (it's only 2mm thick). Seems to work well after that.
