I ran an encounter a few years back that these files are from. Check out more images here (https://imgur.com/gallery/q4Oxc). The intergear can be customized to fit any size hole you need, and the current hole fits a 3/16" acrylic rod perfectly. The fit may feel a bit rough because this was initially built using insulating foam cut on a CNC machine.
